Prep Your Pup For Winter
Winter is coming, and that means colder weather and shorter days. It also means it's time to start thinking about how to keep your pup safe and warm throughout the season. Whether they're big, small, fluffy, or not, here are a few accessories they're sure to appreciate on those chilly winter walks!
1. Booties
Nobody likes cold feet, and that goes for dogs too! A good pair of booties can make all the difference on a cold winter day. They'll help keep your pup's paws warm, dry, and protected from salt and other chemicals used to melt ice.
2. A vest or jacket
Like us, dogs can benefit from an extra layer of warmth on those cold winter days. A good vest or jacket will not only keep them cozy but can also help prevent hypothermia.
3. Dog-safe ice melt
If you live in an area where you see a lot of snow, sleet, and ice during the winter, you may need to sprinkle salt on your property to avoid slipping and sliding. When purchasing this salt, be sure to find a dog-safe brand that is chloride-free and safer to use around your pup.
If there is salt on the ground in your neighborhood or at the park, keep a close eye on your dog and stop them from licking and ingesting it, as it could make them sick.
4. Puzzle toys
Once the weather outside gets frightful, you and your pup may be spending more time indoors. Be sure to have a few puzzle toys on hand to keep them entertained. These can help prevent boredom and destructive behavior when you have to cut down your walking time.
