Bow Wow Buddies Feature Story: Ace!

Dog Jumping

Today, the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation would like to introduce you to Ace, a 7-year-old Bernese Mountain Dog from Hagerstown, Maryland.

Here is Ace’s story:

Ace is as energetic and active as they come! He loves to romp around and play with his sister, Seven, and has even competed in several dog agility competitions, earning multiple first and second place titles. As you might assume, Ace is in excellent physical shape from all that exercise, but unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to prevent him from facing a debilitating injury. Just like his sister had done not too long ago, Ace managed to tear his ACL amidst all the action. Not only was this a very painful injury for Ace, but it also meant he wouldn’t be able to continue competing, or even running, romping and playing for that matter. The only solution was surgery, but with his sister Seven recovering from two torn ACLs already, Ace’s parents were fresh out of money for his procedures.

Cue the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation!

With nowhere else to turn, Ace’s mom Julie reached out to the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation for assistance. With their help, Ace was able to get the grant money he needed to have his surgery done right away, rather than having to wait up to a year for his parents to get their funds in order. Ace was cared for by Dr. Benjamin F. Byers at Park Circle Animal Hospital in Hagerstown, is well on his way to recovery already, and is looking forward to competing and playing with his pup pals once again.

“My savings were exhausted, as Ace’s sister has had three surgeries in one year. With no help, Ace’s surgery would have been put off until next year. Delay would have increased his recovery time, and increased his risk for further damage. I was ecstatic to learn he would be able to have his surgery right away. I am forever grateful to the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation.”

Here at Camp Bow Wow, caring for and loving dogs is what we do best, and the Bow Wow Buddies Foundation is a strong reflection of that philosophy.

Each year, many pets are denied access to urgent medical care, simply because their parents, foster parents, or rescuers cannot afford the climbing costs of emergency veterinary treatment out of pocket. The Bow Wow Buddies Foundation is happy to assist dogs and their families in their time of need. With help from donations, we’re able to award grants of up to $2,500 for necessary medical treatments for dogs in need across North America.

Lend a paw and donate today to help a dog like Ace get a second chance!
